What We Do
Our Podiatrists in Townsville, Hayley Paterson, Chris Weber and Emma Phelps are here to keep you moving! With a combined experience of 45+ years' we are leaders in our field of Biomechanical/ Musculoskeletal Podiatry.
At Foundation Podiatry your Initial Biomechanical Assessment will start with a medical, occupational and exercise history. This is followed by a footwear check and a thorough posture, balance, movement and gait assessment by our foot specialists. Rather than just treating the symptoms, we undertake a thorough initial assessment to understand the true cause of your problem. Your treatment is then tailored individually to you.
Traditionally when it comes to Podiatry for musculoskeletal pain, people think that the only treatment option will be orthotics.
At Foundation Podiatry we utilise a wide range of hands-on treatment options such as Shockwave therapy, Low Level Laser therapy, Medical Acupuncture, gait re-education, joint mobilisation, mobility, balance & strength exercises. We find these techniques highly effective in reducing foot ache and foot pain, while assisting with tissue healing and restoring optimal function.
So, whether you’re an elite athlete, weekend warrior or just want to be able to play with the grandkids, our foot specialists have the skills and experience to help you!

Foot Pain treatment options at Foundation Podiatry:
At Foundation Podiatry Townsville, we undertake a detailed Biomechanical assessment involving history taking, medical imaging, footwear check, posture, movement and gait assessment. Only then are we able to give you an accurate diagnosis, prognosis and appropriate treatment plan for your sore feet.
Shockwave Therapy is a relatively new treatment modality used to treat chronic musculoskeletal pain, particularly those injuries that have not responded to typical conservative treatment. Persistent Plantar Fasciitis (heel pain) and achilles tendon pain are the most well-researched and the most commonly treated conditions with Shockwave therapy.
Low Level Laser Therapy
Medical Laser therapy is the application of red and near infrared light over an injured site to promote tissue healing. The laser light penetrates deep into the affected tissue where it is absorbed by cells to reduce inflammation, accelerate tissue healing and reduce foot pain. At Foundation Podiatry we have invested in the industry leading Class 4 MLS Low Level Laser therapy.
Medical Acupuncture provides an effective and often less painful form of treating musculoskeletal pain. Medical acupuncture stimulates nerve fibres in skin and muscle which increases blood flow and promotes local tissue healing. It has a calming effect on the Central Nervous system and releases tender trigger points which are often associated with chronic pain.
Mobility, Balance & Strength
Our feet are amazing!! When they work properly… We tend to look after and train most other parts of our body and just ignore our feet – yet they carry us around all day! They are the heavy lifters! Over the years we have developed our ACTIVE FOOT FORMULA to help people reap the benefits of healthy, strong feet. Focusing on 3 main areas – mobility, proprioception/balance & strength.
Chronic Foot Pain Management
Pain affects each person differently. Some days you may have more capacity to handle your pain than other days. At Foundation Podiatry Townsville our foot specialists offer simple, effective treatments in a personalised manner to reduce your foot pain and leg pain, increase your capacity to do more and improve your quality of life.
Children’s Foot Pain, Gait and Development
If required, early Podiatry treatment can improve children’s strength and coordination and reduce the likelihood of foot and lower limb problems occurring in adulthood. Our Podiatrists commonly address the following concerns your child may have - persistent foot, ankle or leg pain, growth plate pains particularly children’s heel pain, growing pains, tip-toe or pigeon toe gait, flat feet, awkward/clumsy walking and running patterns.
Sports Injury Management
We understand how frustrating sporting injuries can be. Our experienced Biomechanical Podiatrists, Hayley and Chris, both have sporting backgrounds themselves and have 16 years’ experience each in dealing with sports injuries. They can take you from initial injury offloading, assist with tissue healing, rehabilitation to lastly get you optimally functioning back on the sporting field.
Custom Foot Orthoses
Foot orthoses are a device placed inside your shoe to provide cushioning and support to relieve pain. IF orthoses are required, we use a 3D scan of your feet and information gathered from your Biomechanical assessment to customise your orthoses to your individual presentation. 100% custom-made allows us to have the appropriate amount of cushioning, flexibility and support. We use different materials (cushioned rubber & 3D-printed nylon) and can fit many more shoe options than previously. Our Podiatrists make gait plates for tip-toe or pigeon toe gait, heel raises for shoes and adjust orthoses, replace covers etc. in our in-house lab.
Running Gait Assessment
Have your running injuries treated by a runner! Meet Chris Weber - Biomechanical Podiatrist, running coach & avid runner here at Foundation Podiatry. The primary goal of our Running Gait Assessment is to identify any potential biomechanical weakness or imbalances which may increase your risk of injury. From there we can focus on improving your running efficiency which will allow you to train and compete at your very best - and have fun while doing it!
Running Injury Management
Running is associated with a high rate of injury (50% of runners are injured annually). Often there is a combination of factors contributing to the development of an injury and addressing these factors can help guide the best treatment. Some factors may include previous injury, running experience, biomechanics and running form, training errors and footwear.
Footwear Advice & Moonboot Fittings
At Foundation Podiatry we understand the benefits and pitfalls of footwear. We can recommend suitable footwear for your occupation and/or ankle and foot pain. Getting the right fitting and advice when it comes to moon boots can help avoid serious consequences like Deep Vein thrombosis, pain in other parts of the body such as hip or knees, and ongoing pain once the boot comes off.
